2004 Land Rover Discovery Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy up in Camarillo Heights, older Discovery II sitting in his driveway. He had the key, car started fine, but the remote had been dead for months. He figured he needed a whole new fob and had been putting it off because he expected a big bill.
I drove out, popped the fob case on the hood of my van. The CR2032 inside was not that old, but one of the battery contacts had a slight outward bow to it, barely visible. The contact was skimming the battery instead of pressing on it. Took about ninety seconds to reshape it, clean both contacts, and seat a fresh battery.
Tested lock, tested unlock. Both buttons working, good range across the driveway and down the street.
He stood there for a second and said he had been manually locking his doors every day for four months. I told him it happens more on the older Discovery fobs than people realize because the cases get pried open wrong the first time someone tries a battery swap.
He had been ready to go to the dealer. He did not need to.
