Cross at Grant Park in Ventura, this Discovery owner had that modern problem: the smart key worked yesterday, dead today.
She'd already tried the CR2032 swap. Even bought the good ones. But the KOBJXF18A still showed "Smart Key Not Recognised" on the dash, and the passive entry was completely gone. Had to use the emergency blade just to get in, which set off the alarm until she held the dead fob against the start button.
I pulled up and ran the diagnostics first. KVM3 module showed active, all five LIN antennas responding, but the key itself wasn't transmitting. Popped the fob open right there on her driveway. The battery contacts had that white corrosion you get from cheap batteries leaking over time. Previous owner must have used whatever was handy.
Clean the contacts, proper Panasonic CR2032, reassemble. Then the real test: walking each door for passive entry, checking all five buttons including the powered liftgate. Everything came back online. She kept testing the driver door handle, touching and stepping back, like she didn't trust it yet.
The dealer wanted three days minimum for key service. We had her sorted in under 30 minutes, right there at home.
