Got a call from a guy on Coast Village Road in Montecito, Santa Barbara. He had a 1999 Mazda Protege parked outside one of those little shops near the roundabout, and his only key had snapped clean at the bow. Half the blade was still jammed in the ignition.
He'd already called around. The Mazda dealer told him they'd need the car towed in, and that it would probably be a next-day thing because they had to pull the lock cylinder to extract the broken piece. He didn't love that plan.
I got there in about 40 minutes. First thing, I extracted the broken blade tip from the ignition using a standard broken key extractor. Came out in one pull, no cylinder removal needed. Then I used my MAZ24 Lishi tool to decode the driver door lock by reading each wafer position directly. That gives me the exact bitting, no original key required.
Cut a fresh MAZ24 blank right in the van. Tested it in the door, the ignition, and the trunk. Smooth on all three.
The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes. He stood there holding his broken key stub the entire time, turning it over like he was trying to figure out how it lasted this long in the first place. Twenty years on one key will do that.
No chip. No programming. Just a clean cut and a working car.
