2004 Mazda Tribute Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near Silverstrand Beach in Oxnard, a farm manager texted me a GPS pin. His 2004 Mazda Tribute was sitting on a gravel access road between rows of avocado trees, about 25 minutes from town. His only key had stopped turning the ignition, and the manual door lock had been disabled by a previous owner, so even the blade was useless on the door side.
I drove out with everything for his Tribute already loaded. Decoded the door with my Lishi FO38 pick, got inside, and pulled the PATS data through the OBD-II port. The PCM confirmed it was running the standard Ford PATS 2 protocol with a single 4D63 transponder registered. I cut a fresh H74-PT blade on site, cloned the transponder chip, and programmed the new key into the system.
His Tribute fired up right there on the gravel. He just stood there watching the dash for the theft light to come back on. It didn't.
The part that got him was how far out he was. No flatbed was making that run quickly, and the nearest Mazda dealer would have wanted the car towed in, then a wait for the appointment. He didn't need any of that. Just a pin drop and a guy with the right tools in the van.
