2008 Mazda Tribute Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A retired bus driver over in the Ventura Keys area called me from the dialysis center. He goes to treatment three times a week and his only key was giving him trouble. The remote portion had quit, and the blade itself was worn down enough that the ignition was getting fussy. His aide was off that day. Getting across town to a Mazda dealer wasn't just inconvenient for this guy. It was a conflict with his treatment schedule.
I drove over that morning and set up on the hood of his 2008 Tribute.
His key used the MAZ24 keyway, so I ran my MAZ24 Lishi on the ignition cylinder, decoded the cuts, and checked the wafer wear. A couple of wafers were sloppy from years of use, which explained why the key sometimes needed a wiggle. Cut a fresh blade, dropped in a new 4D-63 80-bit transponder chip, and programmed it through the OBD-II port using the PATS add-a-key procedure with his original working key present.
His separate remote was a CWTWB1U345, three-button unit, lock, unlock, and panic. Paired that at the same time.
He sat inside, kept his arm wrapped from treatment, and watched me test the new key through the window. Engine fired on the first turn. All three remote buttons responded clean. He never left the building.
Whole thing took about 25 minutes. He was back to worrying about his next appointment instead of his car.
