Got a call from a line cook in Ventura, right near Arroyo Verde Park. His 2010 Tribute was parked in the narrow alley behind the restaurant kitchen, wedged between a dumpster and a delivery van. No room for anything wider than a person walking sideways.

The Tribute's PATS system stores its immobilizer data in the instrument cluster module, so I plugged my VVDI2 into the OBD-II port under the dash and pulled the security info. Read the 4D63 80-bit chip data, generated a new transponder value, and programmed a fresh H75-profile key right there on the milk crate I found next to the back door.
Cut the key on my portable machine back at the van, walked it down the alley, and tested it. Engine fired on the first turn. The theft light on the dash did its normal prove-out flash and went dark.
He stood there holding the new key like he was waiting for something to go wrong. Nothing did. The whole thing took about 30 minutes, and his car never had to move an inch. The dealer wanted him to arrange a tow first. I just needed the alley to be wide enough for my shoulders.
