Got a call from the De La Vina corridor in Santa Barbara. Guy with a 2000 S430 said neither of his keys would start the car anymore. Dashboard lit up, fuel pump primed, but the engine just cranked and quit. Classic immobilizer lockout.
He had already been to a shop that told him his EIS module was bad and quoted him a replacement plus towing to the dealer for programming. That would have meant weeks without the car.
I pulled up and plugged into the OBD port. The EIS was reading both key slots as corrupted, not empty. The module itself was still communicating fine. What had happened was one key got wet, the owner tried drying it in rice, and somewhere in the process the transponder data got scrambled during a partial start attempt. The second key had been flaky for months already.
Bench-read the EIS, pulled the working key data, built two fresh remote head keys with the IYZ-3312 housing and new CR2025 cells, cut both to the original HU64 profile, and wrote them into open slots on the module. Erased the corrupted ones.
He sat on his front steps the whole time, watching me work on his hood. When both keys fired the engine clean, he just nodded and said "that's it?" Like he had been bracing for something way worse.
Whole job, one visit, a fraction of what the shop and dealer route would have run him.
