2011 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from out near Refugio State Beach in Santa Barbara. Guy was at the parking area off the 101 with a 2011 S-Class and zero working keys. One had gone through the wash a week ago, the spare had been missing since 2019. He had been using the washed key on pure luck until that morning when the EIS finally stopped recognizing it.

He was already looking up flatbed prices on his phone when he called me.

I pulled up, popped my laptop on the trunk lid, and connected through the OBD port. Read the EIS module, confirmed it was the NEC variant, not BGA. That matters because NEC jobs can be handled with key data calculation on site. BGA needs server time and different equipment. His was the straightforward NEC read. Pulled the working key data, wrote a fresh 5WK47283 blank, cut the blade to the HU64 profile using his door lock decode, and programmed the remote on all four buttons.

The part that took the longest was waiting for the immobilizer handshake to cycle. He stood there watching the dash, arms folded, like he was waiting for bad news.

Key turned, engine caught, all four remote buttons checked out. He asked how the dealer would have handled it. I told him they would have needed the car towed in and probably quoted a week. He just shook his head and drove off toward the beach.
