Got a call from a guy near Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara. Someone broke into his 2009 S-Class overnight and took both chrome keys right off the kitchen counter through an unlocked side door. Car was still in the driveway, untouched, but he knew whoever had those keys could walk up any time and drive off.
This is more than just cutting a new key. On the W221 with FBS3, the old keys stay live in the EIS memory until you wipe them. So the real job is a full key reset through the OBD port, clearing every previously registered key from the NEC processor inside the EIS module, then writing fresh keys as the only ones the car will recognize.
I connected to the EIS, read the module, erased all stored key data, and programmed two new remote head keys with the 5WK47283 fob and fresh CR2025 batteries. Cut both emergency blades on site. Then tested every function: remote lock, unlock, trunk, panic, ignition start, and steering lock release.
He stood there watching the whole time, arms crossed, not saying much. When the engine turned over on the new key, he just nodded once and looked back at his house like he was already thinking about better locks for that side door.
The old stolen keys are dead weight now. They will not start that car, will not unlock it, will not do anything. Two new keys, programmed and cut on his driveway, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him over the phone that morning.
