Got a call from a guy near El Presidio State Historic Park in Santa Barbara. His 2008 S-Class was sitting in a parking area, completely dead to him. No keys at all. Lost one a year ago, never replaced it, then the remaining one went through the wash in his jacket pocket. These jobs are layered. The EIS module on the W221 talks to the ECU through an encrypted handshake, and every stored key has to be wiped before new ones go in. I connected through the OBD-II port, read the EIS data, and ran the AKL procedure to clear the old key profiles. Cut a fresh 5WK47283 remote head key to factory spec using the key code pulled from the EIS, then programmed the transponder and synced the four-button remote.
The part that always gets a reaction: turning the key and hearing the engine catch on the first try. He just sat there for a second with his hands on the wheel, like he was making sure.
Tested the remote lock, unlock, trunk, and panic. Checked for immobilizer fault codes. Clean across the board. He drove home that afternoon instead of waiting a week.
