In Ventura, over in the Poinsettia neighborhood, a long-haul delivery driver had his key blade snap clean in half inside the ignition of his 2012 Nissan Versa. Broke right at the shoulder. He could see the fragment sitting deep in the DAT17 keyway but couldn't fish it out.
He called another locksmith first. That guy told him the ignition cylinder had to come out, get drilled, and be replaced. New keys, new cylinder, big job. He called me for a second opinion.
I used my DAT17 Lishi to extract the broken blade fragment without scratching the wafer surfaces. Took about four minutes of careful work on the steering column, engine off, right there in the parking lot. Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position for the exact cut depths. His setup ran a separate remote fob, FCC ID KR55WK48903 part number 285E3-JA05A, alongside a standalone transponder blade.
I cut the new blade from the decode and programmed the 46 chip transponder through OBD using the NATS5 pin code pulled from his BCM. No drilling, no cylinder replacement, no new ignition assembly. His original lock works with the new key exactly like it did with the old one.
He stood there turning the key back and forth in the cylinder a few times, like he was checking if the lock remembered him. It did.
The whole thing took under an hour, for a fraction of what that other locksmith quoted.
