Over in the Thompson Boulevard district in Ventura, a delivery driver flagged me down on a referral. His 2019 Nissan Versa key blade had snapped clean inside the ignition cylinder. Half the blade still jammed in there, the other half in his hand.
He had already called another locksmith. That guy told him the ignition cylinder needed to be drilled out and replaced. New cylinder, new keys, the whole assembly.
I pulled my DAT17 Lishi tool and slid it into the keyway alongside the broken fragment. Extracted the piece without scratching or displacing a single wafer. Once the blade was out, I decoded the lock right there, reading each wafer position for the exact cut depths. His setup was the CWTWB1U840 remote plus a separate transponder key, which is common on the lower Versa trims that year.
Cut a new blade from the decode. Programmed the Hitag AES transponder through the OBD port using the NATS5 pin code pulled from the BCM. Tested the ignition, tested the remote lock and unlock, cycled the key a few times to make sure the wafers tracked clean.
No drilling. No new cylinder. No trip to the dealer and no week-long wait for a part order. His original lock works with the new key the same way it always did. He was back on his route inside an hour, for a fraction of what that other plan would have cost.
