1995 Pontiac Grand Am
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do you make a replacement key if I have no key at all?

Two ways. First option is a code cut: I pull the key code tied to your VIN, verify ownership with your registration or title, and cut the blade to spec. Second option is decoding the lock cylinder directly on the car, which gives me the same cut information without needing the code on file. Either path gets you a working key without towing the car anywhere.

Q: Are you licensed and insured to do this work in California?

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, fully insured, and bonded. We're BBB A+ rated and part of Google's Guaranteed program. You can look all of that up before you call. For a mechanical key job on a mid-90s vehicle like the Grand Am, there's no special security data access involved, so the process is clean and simple on both ends.

Q: My key turns hard in the ignition. Do I need a new ignition or just a new key?

On a 30-year-old Grand Am, a stiff ignition is usually wear, not a broken key. The cylinder tumblers wear down over decades and a worn key can make it worse. Before assuming the ignition needs replacing, try this: wiggle the steering wheel slightly while turning the key to release any column lock pressure. If it's still stiff, the cylinder itself may need servicing or the key may be worn enough that it's not engaging the tumblers cleanly.

Q: Can a locksmith make a key from just the VIN, or do I have to go to the dealer?

A locksmith can do it. The VIN ties to a key code in the database, and with proof of ownership I can pull that code and cut the key on site. The dealer can do the same thing but typically requires an appointment, may ask you to tow the car in, and takes longer.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy out near the Via Marina waterfront in Oxnard. His 1995 Grand Am had been sitting a few months and the only key he had snapped off in the door lock. Half in the cylinder, half in his hand.

He'd already called a couple of other locksmiths. One told him he'd need to come to a shop. The other said he'd call back and never did.

I pulled up, extracted the broken blade from the cylinder without damaging anything, then decoded the lock to get the cut depth. Had a replacement key cut on the spot. He tested it in the door, in the ignition, and in the trunk. Everything turned clean.

He asked what the dealer would have wanted for this. I told him they'd likely have quoted a tow, a service appointment, and a wait. He just nodded. That part wasn't the point of the job. Getting him back into his car on a Sunday afternoon in the marina lot was.

Pontiac Grand Am Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 1995 Pontiac Grand Am key have a fob or remote?▼

No. The 1995 Grand Am uses a straight metal key with no remote and no fob. There is no battery to replace, no buttons, no wireless component. You get a key cut to your vehicle and that is the whole package. Simple, reliable, and nothing to reprogram.
