2000 Pontiac Grand Am Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Hot Springs end of Montecito, I got a call from someone who'd been dealing with a fob that worked sometimes and didn't work other times. Classic intermittent. Those are actually the trickier calls because the car isn't fully dead, so people wait on it longer than they should.
She'd already put a new CR2032 in. Still flaky. Locks from close range but nothing from across a parking lot.
When I got there and looked at the fob, the battery was the right type but the contacts had a slight bow to them from years of use. The cell wasn't making solid contact all the way around. I straightened the contacts, seated the fresh battery correctly, and tested range. Better, but the internals on the fob were worn enough that it wasn't going to hold up long. The housing had some flex to it from being dropped a few times.
We went ahead with a replacement fob. Got it paired to the car through the onboard procedure the Grand Am supports, then walked every button one at a time. Lock. Unlock. Button three. Button four. All confirmed. Then range tested it from a normal distance.
She'd called the dealer earlier in the week. They told her a few business days minimum before they could even look at it. I was there and done in under an hour. That part came up at the end almost as an aside. By then the car was already working.
