I was up in the Upper Village area of Montecito on a Tuesday afternoon. A woman had locked her keys inside her 2001 Grand Am outside a shop on Coast Village Road, and by the time she called me she had already tried the spare fob her ex had left in the house. Dead battery in that one too.
I got there, got her into the car in a few minutes, then she asked if I could just make her a whole new remote while I was standing there. The original fob was worn down, the rubber on the lock button had gone soft, and she figured it was a good time.
I had the right fob shell and a fresh CR2032 on the van. Cut a new key blade to her vehicle, transferred everything over, synced the remote to the car right there in the parking lot. Took maybe twenty minutes total once the car was open.
She mentioned she had called the dealer earlier in the week just to get a price. The number they gave her made her put the phone down. She was not expecting what I charged.
I did not make a big deal of it. That is just the job.
