1998 Pontiac Grand Am
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Can you make a key for my 1998 Grand Am if I've lost all my keys?

Yes, all-keys-lost on this one is a clean job. Since it's a mechanical key, we either pull the key code through the VIN or decode the lock cylinder directly. Either way gets us to the correct cut without needing an existing key to copy. We come to you in Wilson, cut it on site, and you're done.

Q: Is EZ Car Keyz licensed to work on my vehicle in California?

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, bonded, and fully insured. We're also BBB A+ rated and enrolled in Google's Guaranteed program. You can look all of that up independently. For a mechanical key job like the '98 Grand Am, the work is cut and fit - no security data access involved - but the credentials still matter because you're handing over access to your vehicle. We take that seriously.

Q: My new key turns hard in the ignition. Did you cut it wrong?

Not necessarily. By the late '90s, a lot of Grand Am ignition cylinders had worn down from years of use. The original key wore along with the cylinder, so it felt smooth. A correctly cut fresh key is actually closer to factory spec, which can feel stiffer in a worn cylinder. Try the door lock with the same key - if it works cleanly there, the cut is fine and the cylinder is the story.

Q: How long does it take to get a replacement key made for a '98 Grand Am?

Fast. There's no programming, no wait for parts, no dealer queue. I carry blanks for these, cut on site. From the time I arrive in Wilson to handing you a working key, you're usually looking at well under 30 minutes total. Compare that to leaving the car at a dealer for a week and the math is obvious.

1998 Pontiac Grand Am Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Wilson, I got a call from a guy who'd snapped his key in the ignition. Not halfway in - all the way in, broken flush with the cylinder face. He'd already tried needle-nose pliers. Made it worse.

He figured it was a tow situation. Called the dealer first, got told to bring it in and plan on leaving it. That wasn't going to work for him.

I pulled up with the van, extracted the broken piece from the cylinder without pulling the whole column apart, and cut him a fresh key right there in his driveway. The whole thing took less time than his commute to the dealer would have.

He kept saying he thought the car was done. It wasn't. It was a broken key and about 30 minutes of the right work.

Pontiac Grand Am Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 1998 Pontiac Grand Am key have a fob or remote?▼

No. The 1998 Grand Am uses a plain metal key with no remote, no fob, and no battery. It turns in the ignition and in the door locks, and that's the whole system. If you've seen listings online for remotes that claim to fit this car, those are for a separate add-on remote entry module that some owners installed aftermarket. The key itself is just a cut metal key, nothing more.
