2002 Pontiac Grand Am Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near Montecito Country Club in Montecito. His 2002 Grand Am would not start, and the SECURITY light on the dash was just sitting there, solid. He had already replaced the remote battery thinking that was connected. It was not.
His KOBLEAR1XT remote was working fine. Doors locked, unlocked, trunk popped. The problem was Passlock II. The Hall-effect sensor inside the ignition lock cylinder had drifted, and the Body Control Module (BCM) was rejecting the resistance reading. Classic Grand Am issue. GM even had a TSB out on it, 02-08-49-002, covering intermittent no-starts tied to the Passlock sensor.
I pulled up to his driveway, ran the Autel on the OBD-II port, confirmed a B2960 code (security system sensor data incorrect). The old 10-minute relearn trick where you leave the key on and wait for the SECURITY light to go off, then cycle three times, that works as a temporary band-aid. But on a sensor that is already flaking, it comes back.
I replaced the Passlock sensor assembly and ran the relearn through the BCM. Tested the start five times cold. Solid every time. Then I paired a fresh KOBLEAR1XT while I was there because his old remote had a cracked case and one of the button pads was barely making contact.
He thought he needed a tow to the dealer. He needed about 40 minutes in his own driveway.

“My car keys were stolen on a cold evening and Nick drove all the way out to Santa Barbara. He got into my car, made a new key, and charged $100 less than another company. Friendly, skilled, trustworthy, and genuinely caring. Nick is a hero.”
“Tim is a hero. He programmed a master proximity key for a newer Volkswagen that multiple locksmiths refused to touch. He spent hours until late at night making sure every function worked perfectly. The skill level here is incredible.”
“Very professional and extremely affordable. The price was literally about three times cheaper than what my dealership quoted me. Fast service and no stress at all. Highly recommend.”
