2009 Toyota Fj Cruiser Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a woman near Topa Topa Brewing Company in Oxnard. Her 2009 FJ Cruiser would not start. Key turned, dash lit up, engine cranked once and quit. The security light on the instrument cluster was blinking steady, which on these trucks means the immobilizer ECU is not seeing the transponder signal at all.

She had one key left. It was worn smooth on the bow, the plastic cracked near the blade shoulder. I could already see the problem before I touched the ignition.

I pulled my IM608, plugged into the OBD-II port, and went into the Toyota immobilizer module. Read the system, confirmed it was the 4D-67 protocol on the 93C56 EEPROM. Her existing key was still registered but the chip signal was intermittent from the cracked housing. The transponder pellet was barely held in place.

Cut a fresh TOY44D-PT blade by code, seated a new 4D-67 chip, ran the seed calculation on the IM608, and registered it to her ECU. Then I registered her old key into a new shell too, because a spare matters on a truck like this.

Tested both keys. Three clean starts each, no security light flash, ignition response immediate every time. She said she had been jiggling the key for two weeks hoping it would keep working. Two weeks of that stress, gone in about 25 minutes in a parking lot.
