I got a call from a guy parked in front of a shop on Central Avenue in Downtown Fillmore. He had one key left for his 2012 FJ Cruiser and it had snapped at the blade, right where the metal meets the plastic head. The bow was in his pocket. The blade was stuck in the door lock.
He had already tried a pen and some tape. It was not going well.
First thing I did was extract what was left of the blade from the cylinder without wrecking the lock. Then I decoded the cut from the cylinder itself so I had the exact key combination. Cut a new key blade, transferred the transponder into the new head, and verified the transponder was reading correctly before I handed it back.
He watched the whole thing from about two feet away, arms crossed, waiting for something to go wrong. When it started on the first turn he just nodded like he'd expected it to work all along.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait of several days just to get an appointment. I was done in under an hour, parked right there on the street.
