2015 Toyota Venza
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2015 Toyota Venza Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Hobson Park in Oxnard had already been to another locksmith. She told me that part quietly, like she was confessing something.

Her Venza had started acting up about ten days after she got a replacement key made somewhere else. In the morning it was fine. By evening the car would sometimes not respond to the key at all. She had started leaving earlier just to give herself time to stand there and try the key a few times before it would take. She thought it was an electrical problem with the car itself.

When I looked at the replacement key, the shell was wrong for the Venza and the transponder chip inside was not the right generation for this vehicle. Some chips will pass initial registration and get through a few start cycles before the car's security system runs its deeper verification and starts rejecting it intermittently. That's the worst kind of failure because it makes the owner think the car is at fault.

I programmed a new key with the correct chip matched to her vehicle, confirmed both the remote functions and the ignition authorization were solid, and let her test it herself a few times before I packed up. The fob battery was also borderline, so that got swapped out with a fresh CR2016 while I was at it.

She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number that made her look for other options in the first place. What she got from the first locksmith saved her money and cost her two weeks of stress. Getting it done right from the start is always the cheaper path.
