Down at Carpinteria State Beach on a Saturday afternoon, a guy waved me down from the parking lot closest to the water. He had a 2007 S60, dark blue, and a flip key that had stopped doing much of anything. He was back on the sand inside the hour. The dealer option would have meant a tow truck, a two-day wait, and a bill that was a significant chunk more than what he paid me. He mentioned the tow estimate alone was going to eat most of what he had budgeted for the weekend.
