2017 Volvo S60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman in Mission San Buenaventura, Ventura, standing outside the Trader Joe's on Thompson. Her 2017 Volvo S60 had one working smart key left and she wanted a spare before she was down to zero.
She had already called the Volvo dealer. They told her to bring the car in, leave it, and wait. Multiple days, plus the key had to be ordered through VIDA/DiCE. Her neighbor had used me on a different car and passed my number along.
I met her in the parking lot with the Smart Pro and the correct KR55WK49266 blank. Her S60's CEM-based immobilizer is the same P3 system Volvo has run since the late 2000s. The CEM challenges the transponder chip, the chip sends back a calculated response, and if they match, the engine runs. No match, nothing happens. That is the whole "European security system" the dealer was charging a premium for.
Cut the key, ran the immobilizer sequence through the OBD port, and had her test all six buttons: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, remote start, and the Volvo logo button. She pressed each one like she was waiting for it to fail. It didn't.
Thirty minutes, done in the lot, for a fraction of what they wanted. She didn't have to leave her car anywhere.
