Guy in Harding Park had his S60 throw "Key not detected" halfway through backing out of his driveway. The YGOHUF8423 was in his pocket, CR2032 fresh from last month.
He tried the usual dance. Hold it near the start button. Nothing. Press it against the steering column where some forum said the antenna lives. Still nothing. The car just sat there, half in the street, refusing to acknowledge the key existed.
When I got there, first thing I checked was battery voltage on my meter: 2.9V on his "new" CR2032. Below the 3.0V minimum these KES5 fobs need. But even with a proper 3.2V cell installed, the car kept rejecting it.
VIDA showed the real issue: the key's rolling code had desynced after too many button presses out of range. Common on these when people test their fobs or kids play with them. The fix wasn't reprogramming from scratch. Just a resync through the CEM's key learning mode, which took maybe three minutes once VIDA authenticated with Volvo's backend.
The whole thing ran him way less than what the dealer quoted for a "new key programming" when he called them first. Same result, but I came to him in Harding Park instead of him flatbedding to Thousand Oaks.
