Got the call from Ebell Park. Guy's 2023 S60 wouldn't respond to the smart key after sitting for a week at the airport.
Dead CR2032 in the YGOHUF8423 fob. Simple fix, right? Not quite. The CEM had logged fault codes during the dead battery period and wouldn't clear with just a battery swap. The backup start procedure wasn't working either.
I pulled up to the airport garage with my IM608 and fresh CR2032s. Got the door open with the emergency blade hidden in the fob. Connected to the OBD port under the dash and found multiple CEM communication faults. The key was still registered but the module needed a proper reset sequence.
Fresh battery first. Then cleared the fault codes through the diagnostic port. Had to cycle through the key registration check to make the CEM recognize the fob again. All four buttons tested: lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Made sure the passive entry worked on both front doors.
He mentioned the dealer wanted to tow it in for Thursday service. Instead, he drove home Monday evening for way less than their quote plus towing. Left him with spare CR2032s for the glovebox.
