2002 Audi TT Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was up on The Riviera on a Tuesday afternoon, parked on one of those narrow streets where you half-expect the car behind you to roll into yours. The owner had a 2002 Audi TT, the original coupe, and she'd been dealing with an intermittent no-start for about two weeks.
She'd replaced the battery in the fob herself. The remote functions came back for a few days, then the car started acting up on ignition again. Not the fob this time, she said. The car would just sit there and not turn over, then it would start fine an hour later. Classic immobilizer behavior when a key hasn't been properly enrolled or when the transponder side of the fob is degraded.
I pulled out my programming equipment right there on the street. On these early 2000s TT setups, you read the security data out of the instrument cluster to get what you need for key registration. That part takes patience more than anything else. Once I had the data, I programmed a fresh flip key blank, cut the blade to match her locks, and ran through a full test cycle: remote lock, unlock, the other two buttons, and then ignition start several times back to back.
It fired every time.
She mentioned the dealer had told her to bring it in, that they'd need to look at the immobilizer module, possibly order parts, and that she should plan for a few days without the car. She's a working professional. A few days without the car on The Riviera, where you need to drive to get anywhere useful, isn't an option.
She drove off with a working key and a programmed spare, same afternoon. The dealer route never came up again.
