2008 Audi TT Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She was parked in the Funk Zone on a July morning with a full load of wedding florals in the back of her 2008 Audi TT. Peonies and garden roses. Trunk closed, windows up, AC off, and the key not working.
She had tried the flip key a few times, nothing. The car stayed locked. She called the Audi dealer and they told her the earliest opening was the following afternoon. Then she called me. I was about 20 minutes away.
First thing I did when I got there was get the door open with a non-destructive entry tool and get that AC running. The flowers were already starting to feel the heat. Once the cabin was cooling down, I could actually focus on the key.
The flip key uses a fold-out blade, and when I opened the housing I could see why it failed. The CR2032 had leaked. Not dramatically, but enough to corrode one of the internal contact points past the point of cleaning. The electronics themselves were not the problem. The battery leak had just killed the connection between them.
I replaced the fob housing and electronics, programmed the new key through the OBD port, and ran through every function before I packed up. Lock, unlock, the third button, and a walk around to check that the car was responding consistently. The whole call took 43 minutes from the moment she reached me.
The dealer wanted roughly double what I charged and needed her to wait until the next day. The flowers made it to the venue. She texted me a photo later.
