A guy in Mission Canyon, Santa Barbara called on a Tuesday morning. He'd snapped his only key. Not lost it, not locked it inside - actually snapped the blade off in the door lock while it was cold and he was rushing. Half the key was in his hand. The other half was stuck in the cylinder.

Once that was clear, I decoded the cut from the lock itself, matched it to the correct blank for that profile, and cut a replacement on the truck. He had a working key in his hand before lunch. The door lock, the ignition, both tested and turning clean.
The dealer comparison came up almost as an aside. He said he'd been bracing for the bill. When I told him what it actually cost, he laughed a little and said he wished he'd called sooner instead of sitting on it for two days trying to figure out his options.
