A European auto specialist on Coast Village Road in Montecito called me about a 2011 TT that another locksmith had already touched. The previous tech attempted an all-keys-lost procedure on the BCM2, lost connection mid-read on the encrypted EEPROM, and the module locked up. No key would register. OBD communication with the immobilizer was dead. The shop's own scan tool could see the BCM2 on the network but couldn't get past the security handshake.
I pulled the BCM2 from under the steering column and set up my ACDP on the shop's bench. The ACDP reads the Megamos Crypto data directly off the module's EEPROM chip, sends it to a calculation server, and returns a recovered file so I can generate fresh key data and re-initialize the immobilizer. Chip read came back clean, calc file returned in a few minutes, and I built a new 3-button IYZ3314 proximity fob with a fresh Megamos 48 transponder.
Reinstalled the BCM2, performed OBD key learning through the diagnostic port, and tested comfort access, remote lock/unlock, and start. Everything responded.
The whole job ran about two hours, longer than a normal key replacement because of the recovery steps. The owner had been looking at shipping the module out for remote repair or towing to the dealer for a much bigger bill and a longer wait. His car left that shop running the same afternoon.
