2006 Ford Five Hundred Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy near the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura called me on a Saturday morning. He had just picked up a used 2006 Ford Five Hundred from a small independent lot. Good shape, fair price, one key.
The lot told him to get a spare made on his own time. He called the Ford dealer first. When they told him what a spare transponder key plus programming would run, he went quiet for a second and then started looking for other options. That is how he found me.
I met him right there at the lot before he even drove the car home. His Five Hundred uses the PATS system with a 4D-63 80-bit transponder chip and an H75 blade. No remote head, no buttons, just a straight transponder key. I cut the H75 on my mobile machine using his original as a reference, then connected my programmer through the OBD-II port to write the new 4D-63 chip into the PATS module. Since he had one working key, the process needed a security login through the PCM, not the simple two-key add procedure.
Whole thing took about 25 minutes. I had him test the new key separately, start, shut off, start again, check the theft indicator on the dash to make sure it did its normal quick flash and went out.
He drove home with two working keys and spent a fraction of what the dealer quoted. The best part was just the look on his face when I told him what it would actually cost.
