A woman near Surfers Point in Ventura called me about her 2007 Ford Five Hundred. Said the key was falling apart in her hand.
When I got there, I could see it. The shell around the pivot point had cracked clean through, and the two halves were basically held together by the circuit board ribbon. One more twist in the ignition and the blade would have snapped off inside the lock cylinder. That is a whole different job and a whole different price.
Her FCC ID was OUC6000022. I pulled the board out on her hood and showed her. The 4D-63 80-bit chip was fine. The three-button remote PCB was fine. The CR2032 contacts were clean. Ford wanted to sell her a complete new key, programmed, and quoted her a number that made her go quiet on the phone. They also told her two weeks for the appointment.
I moved her chip and board into a fresh shell, cut a new HU101 blade decoded from her existing key, and tested the transponder against the PATS module. Started right up. Then I checked lock, unlock, and trunk on the remote from twenty feet out. All good.
She also had me cut and program a spare while I was there. Two working keys instead of one cracked one that was about to strand her. The whole thing took about 35 minutes in her driveway, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
