2007 Ford Five Hundred
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Do I have to tow my Ford to the dealer if I have no working key?

No. A mobile locksmith can handle all-keys-lost on the 2007 Five Hundred right at the vehicle. The dealer will tell you to have the car towed in, show up with your ID and registration in person, and then wait for an appointment slot. That process stacks up fast in both time and cost: towing fees, dealer key fees, and however long your car sits unusable.

Q: What do I need to prove I own the vehicle before you can make a key?

A valid photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or your title. I verify the VIN from the dash plate or the door jamb sticker on your Five Hundred to confirm everything lines up before I start cutting anything. Same documentation a dealer would ask for. If the car was recently purchased and you do not have the title in hand yet, the bill of sale works. Just have something that ties your name to the vehicle.

Q: I bought a replacement remote head key online for my Five Hundred. Can I program it myself?

The remote portion of the Five Hundred's remote head key does have an onboard programming sequence, but it only works if you still have a working programmed key in hand. The sequence involves cycling the ignition with the existing key in a timed pattern to enter programming mode, then presenting the new key. If you have no working key at all, that door is closed and you need diagnostic equipment.

Q: My Five Hundred starts fine but the remote buttons stopped working. What is going on?

Nine times out of ten, it is the CR2032. These batteries do not always die all at once. Range shrinks first, then the buttons get inconsistent, then they quit. Swap the battery and make sure it is seated flat against the contacts with no wobble. If a fresh battery does not fix it, open the shell and look at the circuit board contacts.

2007 Ford Five Hundred Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call out near East Ventura, a woman with a 2007 Ford Five Hundred and a key shell that had seen better days. The plastic housing had cracked along the side seam, the blade pivot was giving out, and the whole thing was being held together mostly by hope.

She had already called the dealer. They quoted her a number that made her pause, and the appointment was going to push her into next week. What they did not tell her was that there was nothing wrong with the electronics inside that cracked shell. The transponder chip was reading fine. The remote circuit board was fine. The buttons still worked when she pressed them carefully enough to keep the housing together.

I met her in her driveway. She watched me open the shell, transfer the circuit board and transponder into a fresh housing, and seat the CR2032 back in properly. Then I cut a replacement blade to match and tested everything: remote lock, remote unlock, the third button, and confirmed the car started without a hiccup.

The whole job took about twenty minutes on her driveway. She got a working key again and peace of mind, without the wait, without the tow, and for a fraction of what the dealer wanted just to replace a shell she did not need to replace in the first place.

Ford Five Hundred Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I am locked out of my Five Hundred with no spare. Can you come to me in East Ventura?▼

Yes, that is exactly what I do. Call me and I will come to wherever the car is sitting. I carry the blanks and cutting equipment to handle the Five Hundred on site, so you do not need a tow truck and you do not need to arrange a ride to a dealer. I can decode the lock, cut a key, and get it programmed right there. One call takes care of it.
