2001 Hyundai Santa Fe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2001 Hyundai Santa Fe Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Peach Hill, a guy flagged me down through a neighbor who had my number. He had a 2001 Santa Fe and a key that was so worn down the ignition was getting picky about it.

Some mornings it turned fine. Other times he'd be sitting there wiggling it for two minutes before it caught. He figured the ignition was going bad and had already mentally budgeted for a repair shop visit.

I looked at the key first. The cuts were rounded off pretty significantly, which happens after years of use, especially if the key was ever used to open packages or pry something small. The blade was still technically the right shape but the peaks and valleys had softened enough that the wafers inside the cylinder were borderline on a few positions.

I decoded the worn key against the cylinder and cut him a fresh one to the original bitting. Turned it in his ignition right there on the street. Smooth first try, every time after. No shop visit, no parts, no tow.

He had called the dealer earlier that week. They told him to bring it in for diagnosis and quoted him a window of time that meant leaving the car there. What he actually needed was a new cut of the same key, done on site in Moorpark for a fraction of what they wanted.
