2004 Hyundai Santa Fe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Do I have to tow my Santa Fe to the dealer if I have no working keys?

No. Towing to the dealer is one option, not the only one. A mobile locksmith with the right diagnostic equipment can come directly to wherever the car is sitting, whether that's your driveway off Campus Park Drive or a parking lot near Moorpark College. We bring the tools to read the vehicle's security data and program replacement keys on site. Dealer pricing on top of a tow bill adds up fast. Call first, get a number, then decide.

Q: How long does an all-keys-lost job take on a 2004 Santa Fe?

On a 2004 Santa Fe the active programming time is short once we're connected and have the PIN. The longer part of the visit is the setup, the security access wait that some systems build in before they allow new key registration, and the testing at the end. Total time from arrival to handing you a working tested key is typically under an hour. Nothing gets mailed, nothing gets back-ordered. It's done on site.

Q: My 2004 Santa Fe remote only works a few feet away now. Is the fob dying or is something wrong with the car?

Short range on these is almost always the fob, not the car. The CR2032 is the first thing to check, but don't just drop a new battery in and call it done. Open the case and look at the contact tabs. On a fob this age, those tabs get bent or corroded and they won't hold a solid connection even with a brand new cell.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2004 Santa Fe. Can I program it myself?

There is an owner-accessible programming sequence that some 2004 Santa Fe owners have used to add a fob without professional tools, typically involving the door lock and ignition in a specific sequence. Whether it works depends on the vehicle's current state. If you still have at least one working programmed fob, the onboard sequence has a better chance of completing.

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman parked near Moorpark College. She'd been using her 2004 Santa Fe's fob for years with no issues, then one morning it just stopped working entirely. Nothing. She'd already swapped the CR2032 herself, which was the right call, but it didn't help.

She mentioned she'd looked up my license before calling. Said her last experience was with someone who showed up in a personal vehicle, handed her a handwritten receipt, and had a phone number that stopped working two weeks later. She wasn't going through that again.

When I got there, I opened the fob right on the hood where she could watch. The new battery was in there, but one of the contact tabs had a slight inward bend, probably from the case being pried open the wrong way at some point. It wasn't pressing flat against the cell. Quick adjustment, cleaned the contacts, snapped the case back together.

Then I walked every button with her standing there. Lock, unlock, third button. Checked range from across the parking lot. All of it came back.

She asked if she should get a spare cut while I was there. I said yes, because all-keys-lost on a 2004 is a real job and a spare remote fob sitting in a drawer is cheap insurance. We took care of both while I was already on site. One trip, done.

Hyundai Santa Fe Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I lost all my keys to my 2004 Santa Fe. Can you still make a new one?▼

Yes. All-keys-lost on a 2004 Santa Fe is a job we handle on site. The process involves reading the security PIN from the vehicle, running the all-keys-lost programming routine through the diagnostic port, and registering the new key so any previously lost keys no longer work. The replacement fob gets paired to the vehicle at the same time. You do not need to tow it anywhere. We come to you in Moorpark and do the entire job at your location.
