I got a call from a woman parked near Moorpark College. She'd been using her 2004 Santa Fe's fob for years with no issues, then one morning it just stopped working entirely. Nothing. She'd already swapped the CR2032 herself, which was the right call, but it didn't help.

Then I walked every button with her standing there. Lock, unlock, third button. Checked range from across the parking lot. All of it came back.
She asked if she should get a spare cut while I was there. I said yes, because all-keys-lost on a 2004 is a real job and a spare remote fob sitting in a drawer is cheap insurance. We took care of both while I was already on site. One trip, done.
