I plugged into the OBD port and pulled immobilizer data. The module was fine. What I saw was a half-written key registration. The previous tech had started the ID46 learn sequence but never completed the timed confirmation cycle. Hyundai's system on these CM-chassis Santa Fes requires you to hold through the full registration handshake. If you pull out early or skip the confirmation step, the PCF7936 writes temporarily and then drops out of permanent memory on the next power cycle.
I used my HY18 Lishi to verify the blade cut was actually correct, which it was. Then I cleared the failed key data through the Autel IM608, ran a clean learn cycle start to finish, and waited for the confirmation screen showing the key stored in the immobilizer's permanent slot.
Cranked right up. He stood there watching the dash like he expected the engine to quit again. It didn't.
He'd already paid someone else for a job that was never finished. I couldn't fix that part. But I could make sure the car actually started when he turned the key.
