2024 Hyundai Santa Fe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to adding a spare?

More. Noticeably more. When you have a working key, adding a spare means I program a second fob alongside the one that already exists. Quick job. When every key is gone, the immobilizer has to be fully reset, a PIN has to be extracted from the vehicle, and every key you want active has to be enrolled from scratch in the same session. It takes longer and the procedure itself is more involved.

Q: Are aftermarket fobs cheaper, and will they actually work on the 2024 Santa Fe?

Aftermarket fobs exist for the 2024 Santa Fe, and some work fine. The catch is that compatibility claims on marketplace listings are not always accurate. This generation uses a specific fob with a 7-button layout and a CR2450 cell, and a fob that looks right or is listed as compatible isn't always verified for your exact vehicle.

Q: My 2024 Santa Fe shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is brand new. What's going on?

A few things can cause that. First, confirm it's actually a CR2450 and not a CR2032 or CR2430. The 2024 fob takes a CR2450, and a thinner cell won't make solid contact even if it's fresh. Second, check that the battery is seated flat and the cover clicked fully closed. A slightly warped aftermarket battery cover can prevent solid contact. If both of those check out and the warning persists, the fob itself may need to be looked at.

Q: Can I program a second fob for my 2024 Santa Fe myself at home?

No. The 2024 Santa Fe does not have a self-programming sequence you can run from the driver's seat. Enrolling a fob requires diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port. There's no ignition-turn trick, no button combination. If you bought a fob online hoping to pair it yourself, you'll still need a locksmith or dealer to register it to the vehicle.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was over in Pacific View, Ventura, a little past midnight. The guy had been texting me for about twenty minutes before he finally just called.

His 2024 Santa Fe was sitting in the driveway, and his only fob had stopped being recognized. The push-button start on the dash was lit up but doing nothing useful. He said he'd been pressing the fob against the start button like he'd read somewhere, and nothing happened. I told him that trick is worth knowing but it's not a fix, it's a one-time workaround if the battery is dying and he needed to get moving once. He wasn't in that situation anymore.

I pulled up, connected to the OBD port, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure on the Santa Fe's security system. On the 2024, you pull a PIN from the vehicle data before you can register anything new. No PIN, no key enrollment, full stop. Once I had it, the procedure walked through erasing the old unrecognized fob and enrolling his replacement. The whole process had a built-in timed sequence, so you just have to let it run. Can't rush it.

By about 1:15am the new fob was paired, the start button worked, and I walked him through testing every function before I packed up. He'd already pulled up tow services on his phone when I arrived. Flat rate to the dealer, wait until the service department opened, a day or two without his car. He seemed genuinely surprised that none of that was necessary.

I do these on-site in Ventura regularly. Midnight in a driveway is not a problem.

Hyundai Santa Fe Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace a key for my 2024 Santa Fe?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer. Hyundai dealers typically bring in outside contractors for key work anyway, and the markup between what that contractor charges and what you pay at the service counter is significant. With EZ Car Keyz you get the same work, done at your location in Ventura, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted. No tow, no appointment booked out a week, no waiting for a part to come off backorder.
