Out at Ormond Beach, right off Perkins Road where the parking lot faces the water, a guy called me on a Saturday afternoon. He had been at the beach with his family, set his 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe fob down somewhere in the sand, and it was gone. One key. No spare at home. Car sitting locked in the lot.

Once I had it, I cleared the old key data, which kills the lost fob permanently so it can not start the car even if someone finds it later, and registered the new fob to the vehicle.

I cut a second fob for him too. He had been running on a single key since he bought the car used, and once was enough of a lesson.

Both fobs were tested door by door, start button confirmed, before I packed up. The whole job was done in the parking lot while his family grabbed food from a cooler. He did not need a tow, did not need to wait days at a dealer, and paid a fraction of what the dealer had quoted him the one time he called to ask.
