2018 Hyundai Santa Fe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a family parked at a campsite somewhere off the grid, maybe 40 minutes outside Oxnard on a dirt road. 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, push-button start, and zero working keys. The fob had gone missing out in the field and the car wasn't going anywhere.

No ignition barrel to manipulate, no mechanical workaround. This is the job that makes people feel genuinely stuck, because without a registered fob in range, the start button is just a button. The car's security system won't release the engine. You can sit there and press it all day.

I loaded up and drove out to them. All-keys-lost on a push-to-start Santa Fe means the existing key memory has to be cleared before new fobs will register. That involves pulling a PIN tied to the vehicle, resetting the key count in the module, and then programming the new fob through the diagnostic port in the correct sequence. It's tool-dependent work. There's no shortcut, no ignition-turn trick.

The reset ran clean. New fob registered on the first attempt. The start button did its job. The family was back on the road from a campsite with no dealer within a reasonable distance and no tow truck involved.

The dealer comparison was almost an afterthought when they asked. A tow from that dirt road alone would have cost more than the whole job.
