2005 Infiniti G35 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She called around 9:45 at night from a pharmacy parking lot near Simi Hills. Overnight shift, just arrived, and the G35 wouldn't respond. No start, no dash acknowledgment, nothing. Just a key-not-detected warning and silence.
She'd been an overnight pharmacist long enough to know the dealer wouldn't pick up until morning, and a tow meant she'd be without the car for her entire shift. She needed it sorted in the lot, right then.
I got there and started with the basics. The fob battery was the original, or close to it. Holding the fob against the start button area got a response, which told me the fob itself wasn't the problem and the car's receiver wasn't dead either. The vehicle battery was the real story. It had been running low for a while, and during a voltage dip the immobilizer had lost the fob pairing from its memory entirely. The fob was fine. The car had just forgotten it.
I stabilized the vehicle battery enough to work with, then reprogrammed the fob through the OBD port. The car started on the first attempt after that.
She moved it to a well-lit spot and went in for her shift. The dealer visit she'd been dreading for the next morning never happened. What looked like a total key failure was a battery problem that knocked the pairing loose. That's a common story on these, and it's a lot cheaper to fix than it sounds.
