And occasionally, especially on a 2007 that's been around a while, the concern is that a fob's internal board has degraded. That's less common but it happens.

One thing worth knowing on these: if the key warning appears but the car still starts, that's a different situation than a fob that gets no response at all. The first might be a range or contact issue. The second usually means the system isn't seeing the fob at all, which points toward the fob's board or a registration issue that needs a diagnostic read to sort out properly.
