A guy in the Strathearn area of Simi Valley had watched enough of my videos that when his 2006 G35 started throwing a key-not-detected warning intermittently, he didn't panic. He texted me instead of calling the dealer.
He had already tried a fresh CR2032. The warning still came and went. Some mornings the door handles woke right up, other mornings he was standing there pulling the handle three times before anything happened. Classic degraded fob behavior on this generation, where a borderline battery reads fine on a meter but can't hold up under the actual RF load.
I drove out to him in Strathearn. He met me in the driveway.
The old fob had a battery that tested at the edge of acceptable. That's the problem with "edge of acceptable." It clears the voltage check but fails the moment the key has to do real work. I built a fresh fob, programmed it through the OBD port, cut a new emergency blade to match his door and ignition, and walked every button and every door handle. Three clean starts, full range check from across the driveway, and the key-not-detected warning never came back.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a number that made him sit down. He was glad he called first. I keep it simple: you get the same person you see on the videos, at your car, same day.
