Got a call from a guy near Chumash Park in Ventura. He had a 1999 Infiniti I30 and one original key left, the rubber grip half peeling off and the blade worn thin enough that he could feel it slipping in the ignition. He wanted a spare before the original gave up on him completely.
He told me he called the Infiniti dealer first. They said they'd need to order a blank by VIN, wait a few days, then have the car brought in for programming. He didn't want to wait. He also didn't want to leave his only working key with anyone.
I showed up, pulled the 4-digit PIN from the NATS BCM through the OBD-II port using my ACDP, and cut a fresh NSN11T2 blade on the van. The 4C transponder cloned clean off his original. Whole thing took maybe 25 minutes.
The part he seemed most relieved about was small. When I handed him the new key, he tried it in the ignition, turned it, and the car started first try. Then he turned it off and started it again. Just making sure. He put both keys on the counter and stared at them like he finally had a backup plan. No drama, no second trip, no waiting on a parts order.
He kept the old peeling key as the glovebox spare. Smart move.
