A grad student near Arroyo Burro Beach in Santa Barbara called me after another locksmith left his 2001 Infiniti I30 in worse shape than he found it. The guy had tried to program a transponder key, failed partway through, and walked away with fault codes sitting in the NATS immobilizer module. Charged him for "the attempt" and told him to take it to the dealer. Now the car wouldn't recognize any key at all.

I plugged my Autel IM608 into the OBD-II port and saw it right away. The NATS module on the BCM was stuck mid-registration, holding ghost key data from the botched procedure. The previous tech had forced a sequence that did not match the NATS5 protocol this car actually uses. That is how you lock the module up.
I cleared the fault codes, confirmed the BCM was back to a clean baseline, then ran a proper all-keys-lost registration for the ID46 transponder chip. His NSN14 blade was already cut fine. The chip just needed to be written correctly and paired to the immobilizer.
His I30 started clean. SECURITY light cycled off like it should.
The dealer quoted him a tow plus a multi-day wait. I did it at his parking spot in about 40 minutes for a fraction of what they wanted.
