Got a call from the Nyeland Acres area in Oxnard. Guy had a 1999 Infiniti QX4 sitting in his driveway, wouldn't start. It would crank all day but never catch. Security light on the dash just glowing steady.
He had already tried his spare key. Same thing. Both keys were original Nissan-cut blanks with the rubber head, part number K-NI02T, and both had the ID46 chip inside. But somewhere along the way, the NATS 5 immobilizer in the BCM lost its handshake with the transponders. The engine ECU was getting a "no valid key" signal and killing the injectors.
I pulled up with my programmer and went in through the OBD-II port under the dash. Read the BCM, wiped the old key registrations, and re-enrolled both of his originals plus a fresh third key I cut and chipped on site. Three clean starts on each key. Security light flashing at rest, going out after recognition on each crank. That is exactly what you want to see.
He told me he almost had it towed to the Infiniti dealer in Oxnard. They quoted him a diagnostic fee just to look at it, plus the wait. I was done in his driveway in about 35 minutes for a fraction of what they wanted.
He kept both old keys and now has a backup that actually works.
