2000 Jaguar XK Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy over on Thompson Boulevard district in Ventura. He had a 2000 XK8 coupe sitting in a small lot behind one of the shops. Only key he had was worn down so badly the tibbe cuts were barely registering in the lock barrel. Sometimes it would turn, sometimes it wouldn't, and on the days it turned, the engine would crank for a few seconds and then die because the transponder wasn't reading clean.
He had already called the dealer. They told him they'd need the car towed in and the wait was going to be days, not hours. He didn't love that answer.
I brought my tibbe key cutter and pulled the code from the lock to get a fresh blade cut right. Then I cloned the ID13 transponder using my Temic reader so the Security and Locking Module would recognize the new key without needing a full reprogram of the SLM. Tested ignition three times, let it sit for ten minutes, started it cold again. Every start was clean.
He stood there turning the new key in his hand like he was inspecting a coin. Then he asked if the old key would still work. I told him it would, but I wouldn't trust it much longer with those worn cuts. He pocketed both and drove off.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes. No tow truck, no service bay, no three-day wait.
