A tax attorney called me from a dim office park over near Proctor Street Plaza in Oxnard around 10:20 at night. Filing season. She sounded wiped out. Her only smart key for a 2014 XK was just gone. Checked her office, the conference room, the parking lot. Nothing.

She stood there watching for most of it. When the dash lit up and the engine turned over clean, she just leaned against the car and exhaled. Didn't say anything for a second. That kind of tired.
She drove home that night. A Jaguar dealer would have meant a tow plus days of waiting, and they were closed anyway. The VIN is the single most useful thing you can give me when you call.
