2005 Jaguar XK
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2005 Jaguar XK Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy up in the Hillsides in Ventura, late on a weeknight. He had a 2005 Jaguar XK sitting in his driveway and it would not start. His only key, the one he had been using for years, had stopped being recognized by the car. No warning, no gradual weirdness. Just turned the key one morning and nothing.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to have it towed in, said the job would take a few days minimum, and gave him a price that made him hesitate long enough to look for another option. That is when he found me.

I drove to him. Confirmed the key blade was cut correctly and the chip inside was still reading on my tester, which ruled out a physically failed key. Then I checked the main battery under the hood. It was weak, not dead, just weak enough to cause communication dropout between the key and the immobilizer. That alone can make the car act like it has never seen the key before.

Jump-started the system, confirmed communication was restored, then recommended he replace the main battery before anything else. The key itself was fine. He did not need a new one.

That is the job a lot of people never get billed for at the dealer because the dealer assumes the worst and starts replacing parts. I figure out what is actually wrong first.
