2002 Jaguar XK Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy in Downtown Ventura on a Saturday. His 2002 XK coupe would not start. Key turned, engine cranked, nothing caught. He had one key left and the spare had been missing for years.

I pulled up and the car was sitting in a small lot off Main Street, top down, looking like it just rolled off the showroom floor. He kept the thing immaculate. Said the key had been getting flaky for weeks, sometimes needing two or three tries before the engine would fire, and that morning it just stopped working entirely.

First thing I checked was the key itself. The transponder pellet inside the flip-key head was still intact, but the housing had a hairline crack right near the base. That can shift the chip position just enough to throw off the read distance to the antenna ring around the ignition barrel. Classic X100 issue.

I decoded the tibbe lock, cut a fresh six-disc blade on a new flip-key shell, then connected through the OBD port to read the KVM and pull security data. Wrote the transponder, registered it, and tested. Three clean starts in a row. Then I walked the remote range across the lot. Lock, unlock, trunk release, all solid from about 30 feet out.

He watched the whole thing and just nodded when it fired on the first turn. Sometimes that quiet reaction says more than anything.
