Out near the Loma Vista neighborhood in Ventura, a travel blogger had her 2009 Jaguar XK parked at a coastal overlook pulloff. The smart fob had died, so she tried the emergency blade in the driver's door. The HU92 tip snapped clean off inside a cylinder that probably hadn't been turned since the car left the factory.
She'd already called another locksmith. He told her the lock needed to be drilled out, new cylinder, new key, the whole destructive route. She called me for a second opinion.
The fob electronics were still alive inside the housing, just a dead CR2032 and a broken blade. I used my VVDI2 to read the chip data off her original KR55WK49244 smart key. Then I went after the broken fragment with my HU92 Lishi pick, working it out of the lock without scratching the wafer surfaces inside.
Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock, cut a fresh emergency blade, and rebuilt the whole thing in a new 5-button shell. Tested all five buttons, tested passive entry on both doors, tested push-button start.
No drilling. No cylinder replacement. The car looked exactly the same as when I pulled up. She kept glancing at the door lock like she expected to see damage. There wasn't any.
She saved a good chunk over what the other guy quoted for the destructive approach. On a Jaguar, drilling should be the absolute last resort.
