A night-shift ER pharmacist near the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard called me around 11:20 at night. Her only smart key for the 2012 XK had stopped communicating. The car sat in her garage, locked out electronically, ignition dead. She was already Googling tow trucks and Jaguar dealer hours.

I pulled the KVM from behind the glovebox, read the EEPROM with my Smart Pro on the bench right there on her workbench, and extracted the security data. Then I reinstalled the module, connected through the OBD port, and ran the Jaguar AKL procedure to register a new KR55WK49244 fob. Cut the emergency blade on the van, tested all five buttons, checked passive start from both front seats, and made sure the old dead fob was wiped from the system.
The whole thing took about 50 minutes. She stood in the doorway watching most of it, arms crossed, looking like she was waiting for a complication that never came.
She had already pulled up dealer quotes on her phone. The number she found was a lot higher than mine, and that was before factoring in a midnight tow. She didn't need either. Just a mobile locksmith with the right JLR tooling, in her garage, at 11:20 on a Tuesday.
