2013 Jaguar XK Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy in College Estates on a Sunday afternoon. He had a 2013 Jaguar XK sitting in his driveway, and his smart fob had finally given out after a slow decline over a few weeks.
He had been ignoring a key-not-detected warning on and off for a month, figured it was the fob battery, and kept putting off dealing with it. Then one afternoon it just stopped working entirely and he realized he had never once looked at the emergency key blade tucked inside the fob housing.
He had the fob in his hand when I pulled up. The blade had never been cut. He bought the car used and it came with one fob, and at some point the blade had been swapped out for a blank. Whoever owned it before him either lost the original or just never bothered.
That is the part of this job that catches people off guard. The emergency blade inside the XK fob is a real working key that gets cut to your car. It is not decorative. For a lot of owners, that blade is the only way into the car if the electronics side of the fob fails and you need to get through the door manually. We cut a blade to his vehicle right there in the driveway, verified it in the lock, and walked him through where the hidden door slot was.
He mentioned he had called the dealer earlier that morning. They told him to have it towed in and they would sort it out sometime during the week. He was a fraction of what they would have charged, done on a Sunday, without moving the car.
