Got a call from a guy near Promenade Park in Ventura. His 2004 Sedona had been sitting at the soccer fields, and somewhere between the game and the parking lot, his only key disappeared. Gone. Checked pockets, checked the grass, checked under the seats. Nothing.

I got there and started with the door. Decoded the lock wafers to get the key cut on an MIT8 blank. Clean cuts, smooth turn in the ignition on the first try. Then I plugged my IM608 into the OBD-II port, pulled the 6-digit PIN code from the immobilizer module, and ran the ID46 transponder learn procedure. The PCF7936 chip registered on the first pass.
Then the part I don't skip. Three consecutive start cycles. Key in, engine running, key out. Repeat. I also tested that the steering column lock released cleanly each time, because these first-gen Sedonas are known for sticky lock cylinders after sitting.
He stood there watching me start his van for the third time and said he thought the whole thing would take days. Took me about 35 minutes, right there in the lot, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him.
